Swing kids

This past saturday I had one of the most fun nights since my arrival at NC State. Liz had the wonderfully brilliant idea to go swing dancing. she and I went to great pains to get a group of kids together in an equal boy to girl ratio... not always easy with NC State odds. And oh did we succeed...actually we were off by one heavy on the boys side but it was a success al the same. we went to the Durham armory where the Triangle Swing Dancing Society puts on a dance every first and third saturday. We had a terrific time for a number of reasons:
Reason #1: Hanging out with folks I love
it was great to go out with lots of my closest friends and just have a grand old time.
Reason #2: Broadened Horizons
we went at 7 and spent the first hour getting a lesson on the basic steps in swing dancing. it was a great way to get comfortable with the steps before the dancing began.
Reason #3: Live Band
I've never gotten to dance to music from a live band before. there is way more fun energy in dancing to live music than to tracks spun by a DJ.
Reason #4: Doing Something New
Campus life can get a bit monotonous if you don't mix things up a little bit and that is exactly what dancing was all about. we decided to do something different for a change and boy was it swell
Reason #5: Boys in Pin-Striped Pants
who doesn't love a boy in pin-striped pants and dress shoes?! Both Chris and Jerod got all decked out to go dancing and us girls thought that it was great. the next time we go we are all going to get dressed up.

Everyone had a wonderful night and the group decided that we would like to go back at least once a month. i've got a few pictures of folks posted on the side bar if you would like to take a look.

what a pain in my...TOE

tonight my wonderful roommate, Liz, ripped my toenail off and it was absolutely hillarious. yep, you read that right, she injured me and it was funny.

here is how it happened, i was standing in front of my couch tossing stuff onto my bed. Liz moved the couch in order to tuck the vacuume behind it. well the couch went over my foot and caught on the nail of my big toe and bent half of it backwards. yep it hurt. so much so that i had no response, and just kind of fell onto the couch in pain. i recovered myself enough to flip my toenail back over to its rightful position and was able to wash it off just as it started gushing blood (EWWW!!). now i gather that you are wondering what exactly is funny about this story.

there is a little bit of a back story to it now. i went backpacking over fall break and had to borrow hiking boots. now they were a bit small and turned my long toe's nail blue. liz gave me such a hard time about my blue toe. then the toenail fell off and now it's finally grown back but its a little bit funny shaped so liz gives me a hard time about that. anyway my blue toe is finally looking normal again and im feeling pretty good about it despite liz's teasing remarks... that was until my big toe got absolutely murdered.

the only thing i could think to say when i came back into the room after cleaning off my poor toe was, "My feet are gonna look like CRAP!!!" at this liz and i erupted into histerical laughter. then i decided to put ice on my toe, but we didn't have any ice cubes made... so i improvized. i held a popsicle againt my toe instead of ice. as you can imagine this was comical as well, so much so that liz felt the need to take a picture of me with the popsicle on my foot.

anyway long story short, my toe nail is completely tore-up. And it hurts like none other, but for every pain in my toe there is a good laugh to be had.
